EUROPE IN SHORTS IX: FANTASTIC

The Europe in Shorts programme is an initiative of the European Coordination of Film Festivals with the support of the Media programme of the European Commission. Always linked to a particular theme, it allows short movies to be accessible to audiences at festivals adherent to the Coordination.

For the ninth Europe in Shorts programme, which is dedicated to fantastic cinema, another network of film festivals, the European Federation of Fantastic Film Festivals, has joined the programme. This marks the first time that these two networks of European film festivals have worked together on a project, and the first time that the programme is being made available to festivals in both networks.

The organisers responsible for selecting the films in the ninth Europe in Shorts: Fantastic programme didn’t want to trace the history of fantastic short movies, but rather chose to present the works of young and talented directors capable of fascinating audiences with their diverse approach to the fantastic theme. This programme, then, offers a number of people their first real opportunity to view the treatment of the fantastic genre in short movie form. And contrary to accepted opinion, the fantastic genre is not all about bloodthirsty monsters – indeed, in reality they often don’t make an appearance…

 EUROPE IN SHORTS IX: ΦΑΝΤΑΣΙΑ

Το πρόγραμμα Europe in Shorts είναι μια πρωτοβουλία του European Coordination of Film Festivals (ECFF, Ευρωπαϊκός Συντονισμός των Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου) με την υποστήριξη του προγράμματος Media της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής. Καταπιάνεται πάντα με ένα συγκεκριμένο θέμα, και βοηθά τις ταινίες μικρού μήκους να αποκτήσουν πρόσβαση στο κοινό των φεστιβάλ που εντάσσονται στον ECFF.

Ειδικά για την ένατη έκδοση του προγράμματος Europe in Shorts, που είναι αφιερωμένο στον κινηματογράφο της φαντασίας, προσαρτήθηκε ένα άλλο δίκτυο κινηματογραφικών φεστιβάλ, το European Federation of Fantastic Film Festivals (Ευρωπαϊκή Ομοσπονδία των Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου Φαντασίας). Είναι η πρώτη φορά που αυτά τα δύο δίκτυα των Ευρωπαϊκών Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου δουλεύουν μαζί πάνω σε ένα πρόγραμμα, και η πρώτη φορά που το συγκεκριμένο πρόγραμμα διατίθεται στα φεστιβάλ και των δύο δικτύων.

Οι οργανωτές που είναι επιφορτισμένοι με την επιλογή των ταινιών του ένατου προγράμματος Europe in Shorts: Φαντασία δεν επιδίωξαν να παρουσιάσουν την ιστορία των ταινιών φαντασίας μικρού μήκους, αλλά μάλλον να επιλέξουν και να παρουσιάσουν την δουλειά νέων και ταλαντούχων σκηνοθετών που έχουν την ικανότητα να γοητεύουν το κοινό με την διαφορετική τους προσέγγιση του φανταστικού. Αυτό το πρόγραμμα, λοιπόν, προσφέρει σε ορισμένους ανθρώπους την πρώτη τους πραγματική ευκαιρία να δουν την διαχείριση του είδους της φαντασίας στη μορφή της ταινίας μικρού μήκους. Και αντίθετα με την επικρατούσα άποψη, το είδος της φαντασίας δεν έχει να κάνει με αιμοδιψή τέρατα – όντως, και στην πραγματικότητα συχνά δεν κάνουν την εμφάνισή τους...
